The Orion configurator will run the first time the Orion system is powered up. The Orion configurator allows the user to select the number of devices on the link, device tagname, custom alarm messages, as well as menu items that should be accessible to the user during Orion operation. The configurator also allows the user or OEM to customize the “splash” screen when the Orion runtime boots.
Configure Number of Controls and if Digital Alarm Manager is attached
This screen allows the user to select the total number of controllers connected to the Orion RS485 link. The first address programmed at the controller must start at “1” for Orion to work properly. A maximum of 20 controllers can be entered on this screen.

Loop 1 and 2 linked for profiling: Selecting this option puts Orion into "dual loop" mode of opeation when profile controllers are connected to the RS484 link and programmed for address 1 and 2. When selecting this option, the Orion configurator will lock adresses 1 and 2 (only at the configurator, not at the hardware level) to profile controller types. This means the user cannot select another controller type for address 1 and 2 when configuring tagnames for each controller.
Orion's dual loop operation treats both controllers (address 1 & 2 on RS485 link) as one, dual loop profiler control. This means during edit, download and profile run both controllers operate as a single control with single button operation for all dual loop functions. This gives Orion the ability to control dual loop profile opertions such as wet/dry bulb or Temp/RH applications.
This profile-linking feature is only supported by Future Design Controls and Fuji models.
Controller Alarms Activate Alm Mgr: Selecting this option enables the digital alarm manager to operate the main alarm outputs (Q0 and Q2) if any controller on the Orion link is in an alarm condition. This feature eliminates the need for the user to wire to the relay output of each controller for audible/visual alarms. The Orion interface will monitor and log all alarm conditions from any controller on the link as well as provide a central station for “single point” alarm relay output wiring.
Alarm Mgr Active: Selecting this option enables the digital alarm manager to operate on the Orion link. Do not make this selection if the digital alarm manager is not connected or communication errors at the Orion runtime will occur.
Alarm Mgr used for input status only: Selecting this option enables the digital alarm manager to be used as an input status-monitoring device only. The main input status screen at the Orion runtime will display the status of all inputs selected under the “Digital Alarms Tagnames” screen.

Configure Controller Type and Tag Names

The controller tag name screen allows the user to select a control type for each drop on the Orion network. Controller tag name, alarm messages, engineering units and decimal position are completely configurable by pressing each field.
A totalizer is supplied for each loop by clicking on the “Totalizer” checkbox and selecting Mins or Hrs for the rate of totalization. Channels will automatically be added to the Orion runtime for running, daily, weekly and monthly totals for the specific loop and the totalizer view for the loop will be enabled.

Digital Alarm Tagname Screen

The Digital Alarm Tagname screen provides the user with the ability to enter a custom tagname for each contact closure input supported by the digital alarm manager. The tagname information is displayed in the Orion runtime alarm grid if a contact closure alarm occurs. Press the “TagName” field to display a pop-up text entry dialog. Use the right/left arrows to navigate through all 26 contact closure tagnames. Press the “Select checkbox if input is being used” checkbox so the Orion runtime will dynamically display only the digital inputs selected for use by the user in the “Input Monitor” and “Digital Alarm Delay” screens.

Digital Alarm Manager - Master On / Synch Tagnames

The “Master On/Master Sync” tagname screen allows the user to customize the name for both inputs whether the system is used as a digital alarm manager or input status monitor only.

The “Push Button Control Names” screen allows a user to select the number of pushbuttons used in the main Orion runtime as well as editing the name for each push button (up to 16 chars). If the digital alarm manager option is not connected to the system, the push button control screen (in main Orion runtime) will not be accessible.

The Orion Enable / Disable configuration provides a powerful feature that allows a system integrator or OEM to enable or disable any of the views in the Orion runtime. This provides the ability to “lock out” any menu item(s) or screen(s) in the Orion runtime system. If a menu item is disabled at the configurator, the item will be “grayed” out when the Orion runtime is started. This provides the integrator or OEM the ability to customize the Orion system for specific needs while disabling functions the end user might not require.

The startup screen for Orion is also configurable from this screen. Any main Orion screen can be configured as the “Startup” view on system power up. Use the “drop down” box to select any screen for viewing during system power up.
Checking a box for an item enables the feature in the Orion runtime. If the checkbox is
not checked, the feature is disabled in the Orion runtime.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you disable the “Exit Program” function in this section, the user will not be able to quit the program! This is to make sure that Orion always boots at runtime and cannot be stopped by any user. This also protects valuable data that Orion collects. It’s kind of like your “Windows” password, if you lose it, you must order a new smart card from Future Design Controls.

Configure Orion Customer Name/Address

The customize Name\Address screen provides the user with the ability to enter company name, address and phone information for the Orion runtime. This information is displayed each time the Orion runtime is started. Press each field to display a pop-up text entry dialog.

From the file menu select “Exit” Orion will advise the user that during the next power-up, the Orion runtime software will start automatically. To make Orion easy to use, each time a user exits the configurator and re-powers the Orion system, the Orion runtime software will auto-boot. This shields the end user from navigating directories to find the correct application to run.
The Orion runtime gives the user the ability to quit the Orion runtime application, (with proper security access if enabled) and enter the configurator or Orion runtime on the next power-up of the Orion system.
