VR Series: Special Optional Feature: Math, Counter & Totalization
The VR Series Math option provides 18 Derived channels. These Derived channels may be assiged as Math [see below],
Counter and/or for Totalization. As standard the VR18 offers Timer function which is also described below.
The Math option allows for equations to be used to produce a Derived Variable by using measured data or computed as the
variable(s); math on math is allowed as well as math on analog channels or other derived variables.
The result of Math can be displayed and stored.
The Math expression / equation that can be keyed has a maximum 36 characters.
VR Series Configuration, with exception of Math, is described in VR Series Configuration.htm page.
When a VR18 is ordered with optional Math function it is available in the Channel configuration screens.
As reference with the bottom access door open [bottom soft buttons appear] press the Configuration button shown on bottom of Page display; Page display can be one of 6 screens - sample screen below is "Page 1" and has mode display of "mix", a combination of trend, bar graph & digital displays.
Once timed out and the bottom access door closed the display automatically expands to both the left & bottom to fill space vacated by the soft keys.

Then for Math configuration press the Channel Button to enter the Channel Configuration mode;
Note: to configure the Timer [standard on all VR Series's], Counter & Totalizer functions the Tool Button will be depressed.

The Channel screen initially shown will be an Analog input - Press Math key to select the Mathematics input.
Except for Expression, it is similar to setting up Analog channels described in VR Series Configuration.htm.
Define the name, Description, and select Type, Log Method, Log Speed, Unit, Scale Low, Scale High, and Event.
Enter Expression column, columns appear for selection of Source, Operator and a Keyboard.
Use Source, Operator and keyboard to define the Math equation.
Press directional keys < > at the bottom to select from 1 to 18 available Math channels.
Press Back key to memorize the Math settings.

Shown below are sample reporting screens
Field Installation of Math Option
It is best to specify the Math Option at time of order. To add the optional Math module (includes Counter & Totalizer features) in the field it is necessary to order a Boot ROM Chip that enables this option.
Refer to VR18 Technical Support Documentation.htm and specifically VR18-Chip Replacement DOC - Boot ROM-A.pdf [152KB] for instructions on how to change chip sets in the field.
