What is KilnView Software?

KilnView is a Supervisory PC based SCADA and configuration package for the FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Control and FDC 300 Series Single Loop Controls.

KilnView and the FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Control mode share the same feature sets for Displaying Data, Historical Data Log files, Schedule Edit-Run-Hold-Stop, File Management for Alarms, Schedules, Data Log files, Operator Audit Trails, Security, etc.

Remote Access vs. SCADA software: Although KilnView is an economical SCADA software solution ($2,000 runtime fee) if Remote Access via an office PC (intranet) or offsite PC (internet) is all you are looking for, as standard the FDC-2010-K5C has an embedded VNC Server allowing easy & complete Remote Access on a standard Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN). For more information on this solution - LAN Features.htm

Note: KilnView may NOT be used with the FDC-2010-K5C v2.x (released April 2008) when it is operating in the Pallet Heat-Treat configuration and/or operational mode.

There are other limitations when using KilnView with FDC-2010-K5C v2.x;

  • Moisture Probes: KilnView must not be configured with optional input Moisture Probes as that functionality differs in FDC-2010-K5C v2.x.
  • EMC: KilnView does not display nor can it configure Schedules logic based on EMC value shown on the FDC-2010-K5C v2.x color touch screen display.
  • Consult factory for other limitations.

KilnView is Supervisory software for Windows® XP PC's to communicate with one to sixteen FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Controls. The FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Controls are self contained Nema 4X Windows® CE Operator Interface offering ease of use for complete Kiln Operation, data logging, printing, web page, etc.

The 300 Series Controls are used as either backup controls or more typically as process controls for other devices, i.e. boiler, chillers, etc.

With KilnView Data from each device can be viewed and changed from the Windows® based KilnView software package. Connection to controllers is accomplished via an RS485 (one to many) connection.

How do I Evaluate KilnView? Information in this site & the KilnView Manual provide sufficient information to qualify KilnView's value. For an Evaluation copy that can run in Simulation mode, or to further discuss KilnView features contact Future Design Controls. Note: KilnView must be Registered & an Unlock code obtained to operate with FDC-2010-K5C controls.

How Many Devices can KilnView communicate? KilnView Software can monitor up to 64 devices; a maximum of 16 FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Controls with the remaining number of available inputs for 300 Series Single Loop Controllers. As an example with KilnView monitoring 2 FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Controls up to 62 300 Series Single Loop Controls could also be connected.

How Does KilnView Display Kiln Values and Data? KilnView provides a rich set of tools for control interaction and data analysis. View Control data in Kiln Faceplate, digital, trend or bargraph format. Change setpoint, tuning parameters, alarm setpoints, event/outputs and an assortment of other variables for any FDC-2010-K5C Kiln controller or 300 Series Single Loop controllers on the link.

KilnView's main display shows current temperature & setpoint values for Dry Bulb#1, Dry Bulb#2, Wet Bulb, control percent output for both Dry & Wet Bulbs, Vent position, Fan Direction Schedule Status, and scrolling of all active outputs/events [same as FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Control]. When running a Schedule setpoint values displayed will match the stage setpoint value whether ramping or specific setpoint value. Click here for Sample KilnView Screens and below left for more detail on KilnView features.

KilnView Schedule - New, Edit, Run, Stop, Hold, etc.: KilnView offers intuitive Windows® manner for Dry Kiln Schedule file management to Create, Edit, Run, Hold, etc. directly from KilnView and/or export for local use in FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Control. The primary KilnView display [as well as FDC-2010-K5C control's operator interface] shows Schedule name, Stage name, Stage time remaining, Stage Status [run or hold], Fan Direction, with Fan in auto an on- demand display of time remaining for Fan condition [Forward, Reverse and Dwell], as well as scrolling of all active outputs/events per Stage.

KilnView - View Additional Probes - Core Temperature, Moisture, Weight: The FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Control can be expanded to handle up to 6 additional probe sensors to monitor temperature, moisture or weight. During automatic schedule control, the additional probes can be selected to alert the user to the lowest moisture/weight probe out of a selected group of probes, or, continue a stage based on the highest temperature out of a selected group of probes (sterilization usage).  These 6 additional probe inputs require an analog signal of 4-20mA. KilnView offers a clear & easy View of these Additional Probes.

Note - The FDC-2010-K5C nor KilnView PC based software provide moisture or weight based control solutions - they provide alerts on the display and a relay output that one or more sensors have achieved specific values.

KilnView Data Logging: Any of the up to 64 devices can have their data saved to the hard disk at user-defined rates. Data file analysis tools (digital and auto-trend) make looking at schedule run data a simple task. [Note: the FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Control may also be configured to data log Kiln temperature values as well as offering virtually all the other features in KilnView.]

Alarm Management Features: KilnView offers complete Alarm Management, user acknowledgement, silencing, printing, export as well as archiving for future reference.

KilnView Security Features: KilnView offers 3-level security compliant with USDA CFR21 Part 11 as well as Operator Audit Trail.

KilnView Help: KilnView offers a complete Help Section.

Registering KilnView Software & Obtaining Unlock Code: KilnView Software must be registered and an Unlock Code obtained to communicate with FDC-2010-K5C Kiln Control(s) and/or Series 300 Single Loop Controls.
