P Series Auto-tune and PID #1 and #2
The Auto-tune (A/T)function allows the user to simplify initial setup for a system. A clever algorithm is provided to obtain an optimal set of control parameters (PID) for the process; the A/T can be applied either as the process is warming up (cold start) or as the process has been in a steady state (warm start).
Fuzzy Control is another feature whose function is to adjust PID parameters from time to time in order to make manipulation output value more adaptive to various processes. The intended results are to have the process reach a predetermined setpoint in the shortest time with minimal overshoot or undershoot during the power-up or external load disturbance.
Two Sets of PID Parameters: The operator may configure the P Series offers with up to two sets of PID parameters. The PID parameters may become active either by a Digital Event input (see directly above) or configured per segment within a profile.

Global Profile Configurations
Below is a description of the Global Settings specific to Profile configuration & operation
Global Profile Configuration - Starting & Ending SP Value
STAR - Setpoint value at start of each profile:Current PV, controller SP1 value or STSP Start SP value (configured within the profile configuration; the STSP value entered under profile configuration is of interest only if it is selected as Global value here).
END - Setpoint value at end of profile: FSP Final SP value for each program, Controller SP value or OFF, all outputs go off except end of profile event relay.
Global Profile Configuration - Delayed Program Start
DLAY - Delay time (HH:MM) between profile initiation & profile start: configurable from 0:00 to 99:59 (hh:mm)
Global Profile Configuration - Power Fail Recovery Logic
PFr - Power Fail Recovery: Continue profile from last SP value, Start to run from current PV, abort profile and control from current SP or Off with all outputs off.
Global Profile Configuration - Holdback Wait Time
HBT - Holdback Wait Time: If configured within a segment the Holdback Wait Time is configurable from 0:00 to 99:59 (hh:mm) or infinite. Details on the Holdback feature are shown below in Profile Configuration - Holdback Band and Segment Configuration - Holdback Type.

Profile Configurations
Below is a description of the Settings specific to a Profile; each Profile may have unique settings.
Profile Configuration - Holdback Band (Guaranteed Soak)
The Holdback Band, sometimes known as Guaranteed Soak, may apply to both Ramp & Soak segments with the Band value common to any segment within a specific Profile. Set values may be from 1 to 999F (1 to 555C).
The Holdback Type described below under Segment Configurations configures Holdback as Disabled, Low Deviation, High Deviation or a Band around SP; see Holdback Type below.
The Holdback Wait Time value described above under "Global Profile Configurations" will allow the profile to advance out of Hold (in Hold due to PV being outside the Holdback Band) after the configured time has elapsed. The Holdback Time may be set to infinite so that the Holdback time is not used in the Holdback control logic.
Whenever the PV exceeds the Holdback Band and Holdback Type (deviation high, low or band configured per segment) the profile will be placed in Hold. The profile will stay in Hold until the PV value is within the limits of the Holdback Band and if so globally configured the Holdback Wait Time is set to infinite. If the Holdback Wait Time is set to a time period and the PV value remains outside the Holdback Band the profile will automatically revert to Profile Run mode (no longer in Hold) after the Holdback Wait Time is exceeded.
Profile Configuration - Start Setpoint Value - STSP
Under the Global Profile Configurations the STAR - Starting Setpoint configuration is selected; choices are Current PV, controller SP1 value or STSP Start SP value. When the STSP is selected the value entered in the STSP within the Profile Configuration is used at the start of every Profile.
The Starting Setpoint value entered is where this specific Profile will start its' first Ramp or Dwell segment. The actual value entered may be from anywhere in the configured input range.
Profile Configuration - Time Configuration for Ramp & Dwell
Ramp Rate Configuration: Ramp Rates are configurable in hh:mm, mm:ss from the Start SP OR in units per minute or hour.
Dwell (soak) Time Configuration: Dwell time is configurable hh:nn or mm:ss.

Segment Configurations
The Segment configuration begins by selecting the segment number which is dependent upon which Profile is being configured.
Profiles 1 - 4 can start / end from segment numbers 0 to 15 (total of 16 segments)
Profiles 5 - 7 can start / end from segment numbers 0 to 31 (total of 32 segments)
Profiles 8 - 9 can start / end from segment numbers 0 to 63 (total of 64 segments)
.
Each Segment can be configured as a Ramp, Dwell, Jump (jump to another segment within the profile) or End.
Segment Configuration - Target Setpoint for Ramp Segment and Ramp Time Duration
.
Ramp Target Setpoint: If the Segment is configured as a Ramp enter the Target Setpoint value (any value within the input's range)
.
Ramp Time Duration: Configure the Ramp Rate time in the units configured as hh:mm, mm:ss or units per minute or hour as described under
Time Configuration for Ramp & Dwell.

.
.
Segment Configuration - PID #1 & #2 and Event Output Selection
.
PID Set Configuration: Within each Segment the PID #1 and #2 may be selected for use.
Note PID values may also be changed from PID #1 to PID#2 by the digital event input if so configured (an instrument configuration).
.
Event Output Selection: Within each Segment up to 3 relay outputs may be configured to be active (on) during a segment. The number of Event Relays is dependent upon model (P41 has up to 3 relays and P91 up to 2 relays) and hardware ordered; refer to part number matrix below. As these relays may also be configured as alarms there may be fewer than the maximum number allowed.
Segment Configuration - Holdback Type & Logic Description
.
Holdback Type: Within each Segment the Holdback Type may be configured as OFF, Low Deviation, High Deviation or Band.
When configured for Low Deviation, High Deviation or Band anytime the PV is outside the Holdback Band the profile will be put in Hold until such time the PV is within limits OR the Holdback Wait Time (if so configured) is exceeded.
.
Holdback Review below
The Holdback Band, sometimes known as Guaranteed Soak, may apply to both Ramp & Soak segments with the Band value common to any segment within a specific Profile. Set values may be from 1 to 999F (1 to 555C).
The Holdback Type described above configures Holdback as Disabled, Low Deviation, High Deviation or a Band around SP; see Holdback Type below.
Whenever the PV exceeds the Holdback Band and Holdback Type (described in this section above) the profile will be placed in Hold. The profile will stay in Hold until the PV value is within the limits of the Holdback Band OR if so globally configured the Holdback Wait Time is set to infinite. If the Holdback Wait Time is set to a time period and the PV value remains outside the Holdback Band the profile will automatically revert to Profile Run mode (no longer in Hold) after the Holdback Wait Time is exceeded.
